Building Bridges: 3rd EU/US Summer School + Workshop on Automorphic Forms and Related Topics (11-22 July, 2016, University of Sarajevo)

Automorphic forms are present in almost every area of modern number theory. In recent decades there has been a starburst of activity and progress in this broad area, leading to many new and exciting directions, applications, and connections with other areas. This is a rapidly expanding area, with numerous approaches, tools, and interconnections, as well as connections to other areas of mathematics. The Building Bridges research school offers training to graduate students and early career researchers in areas of automorphic forms and related topics that continue to be the foci of exciting and influential research activity. The five-day workshop immediately following the summer school aims to foster and strengthen a long-lasting, friendly and supportive exchange between automorphic forms researchers in the EU and the US, and to integrate the summer school students into this community. The organizers have obtained funding to subsidize the costs of successful applicants to the summer school.

Organizers:
Jay Jorgenson (New York),
Lejla Smajlovic (Sarajevo),
Lynne Walling (Bristol)

Event information

At this point in time, productive research collaboration can take place amongst collaborators across time zones and national boundaries. The Building Bridges research schools (and subsequent conferences) offer training to graduate students and early career researchers, with the aim of establishing and enhancing new connections between research areas as well as between researchers. Following the highly successful previous two summer schools and conferences (Aachen, 2012 http://www.math.unt.edu/~richter/afbridges/index.html and Bristol, 2014 http://www.maths.bris.ac.uk/~mamjd/bb/index.html), the third in this series will be held in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized by Jay Jorgenson (The City College of New York), Lejla Smajlovic (University of Sarajevo) and Lynne Walling (University Bristol), followed by an international conference 18-22 July 2016. The mathematics contained within this summer school's mini-courses is both central and deep within ongoing research in automorphic forms, Dirichlet series and L-functions. Summer school participants will have a unique opportunity to become familiar with ideas from recent celebrated work, and to interact with world-class research leaders: those teaching in the summer school and those attending the conference that follows. In addition, this will bring cutting-edge mathematical research into Sarajevo and the surrounding vicinity.
